Hello and a warm welcome to our class and team. Pearl class is a place where children thrive. Embracing contemporary pedagogical approaches that focus on the whole child, we provide an environment in which children can enjoy playing, exploring, investigating and learning.

The environment at Barlavento Early Years is one which embraces the joy of childhood and actively encourages children to remain curious and fascinated by the experiences they encounter. Curriculum activities are informed by our key values of connection, cooperation and communication, ensuring that children experience learning in a thoroughly nurturing environment.

At Barlavento, learning and development happen both indoors and outdoors. In our indoor space the children have the opportunity to explore our role-play zone, small world area, and crafting and creating space, as well as taking the opportunity for peace and quiet in our calm corner. Outdoors, we have a mud kitchen, sand play area, nature investigation zone and play dough station. The children also have opportunities to use the wonderful sports facilities during PE and outdoor playgrounds at break time.

Communication and language development is a key focus of our EYFS curriculum and each day children will have the opportunity to sing, join in with rhymes and poems and be actively engaged in story time. We are committed to including a diverse range of literature in our setting and know how important it is for children to be involved in conversation, storytelling and role-play. Age appropriate literacy is encouraged as children begin to explore letters and sounds in preparation for reading and writing. Numeracy is taught through multisensory games, activities and interactive experiences so that children develop a love for Mathematics and see the wonder of connecting numbers. In our setting children will enjoy a smooth rhythm of activities that flows through the day, including gardening, mindfulness, drama and music as additions to our EYFS programme.
