Susan Hatfield

Music Teacher

I am pleased and excited to join the Barlavento family, and I am very much looking forward to bringing the students and community together through the power of music and performance.

I firmly believe in the importance of listening to and supporting young students’ needs. By combining a curriculum framework with a tailor-made educational experience, I aim to provide accessible ways to nurture their abilities and aspirations. My goal is to create opportunities that explore and empower their natural musical ability, beginning with their own selves. Learning how to use music as a valuable life tool and a unique form of personal expression is of paramount importance. Music can be healing, grounding, and above all, enjoyable.

Creative arts and education have always been my calling, as evidenced by the many years I’ve spent in the Algarve as a creative arts tutor across primary and further education levels. I had the pleasure of tutoring art and design, music, and drama at the Aljezur International School from 2009 to 2018. Composing music is my passion, and I have performed at numerous community events and local stages, both as a solo artist and in ensemble performances.

I am returning to the Algarve with my family after recently completing ICT Level 2, Fda Photography and Digital Media Arts, and a BA Hons degree in Photography with distinctions and first-class Hons. at the University of Plymouth. I will be completing a master’s in photography this summer. I hope that my recent enrichment will prove beneficial to both students and the community.
